How They Did It – Fast Food in Ancient Rome DOCUMENTARY

In this How They Did It episode, we provide a history documentary on the fast food of ancient Rome and are joined by a special guest, Max Miller from Tasting History. The episode begins by taking a look at the general food service industry of antiquity. It turns out that most citizens of Rome, especially the urban plebs, did not live in your typical Roman Domus but rather was crammed into a large apartment complex called an Insula. In such housing they had little space to do their own cooking. Therefore they were forced to go out to get their food. As a result, many shops popped up across Rome to feed these masses. They were a part of the larger practice of the Tabernae which acted as shops and workshops across the city to provide all kinds of goods and services.

We then look at the food related Tabernae, and more specifically the Popina snack shops. This is based on archaeological findings at Herculaneum and Ostia as well as the recent discovery of a Thermopolium at Pompeii, also known as a Popina or snack food bar. We recreate the key characteristics of these ancient fast food shops which closely resembled a modern shawarma shop.

Next we take a look at the likely menu of these Roman fast food shops. We begin by looking at the sorts of meals Roman had in general. This includes Ientaculum, the Roman Breakfast, Prandium, the Roman Lunch, and Cena, the Roman Dinner. The fast food shops would provide for all of these. On the dollar menu for instance would be cheap goods like porridge, nuts, and chieckpeas. On the main menu would be meats, eggs, cheese, bread, produce, seadfood, and all kinds of prepared meals. The documentary covers how these were purchased and consumed. Max Miller from Tasting History provides some insight here on what things would be like on both sides of the ancient Roman kitchens.

God warns his people, who through ignorance were following this organization to leave or suffer destruction as God executes vengeance on it. Rome controlled the world by force for 1260 years as brought out in the Bibe's book of Revelation. In Latin the X or cross is equal to ten, as you can see by the 10 position on a Roman clock. The X represents the 10 Kings of the Roman Empire. The Pope is the 11th, and rules over the 10. The reason it is called the "Roman Catholic" Church, is because it is the Church Empire that rides the 10 Roman Countries. This false religious system riding the ten nations has instituted and forces people to observe false religious doctrines as if they were God given. There is the Roman Catholic leg of the Empire and the British/UK/Comonweath leg. According to Revelation 7 heads(G7) and 10 horns(power structures…Nations). The fact is, the very leader(The Pope) of the group who say he was appointed by Yeshua(Jesus), is a liar. He and his priests say they are celibate, because the Apostle Peter was so they do also, but the bible proves this false. The Apostle Peter's Mother-inlaw was healed by Jesus, so how can you have a Mother-inlaw unless you are married? Also the Bible in Timothy mentions that those overseeing the followers(Churches) should be the husband of one wife. How can a celibate Priest have a wife? Protestantism is the second leg of the Roman Empire. Many people think that Protestantism is different, but is has the same fake Sabbath, named "The Lord's Day", so that people think the Lord is God and that Sunday is his day. False. Even a Catholic encyclopedia acknowledged that "" The Lord's Day" is not the Biblical Sabbath. The false Church has Churches around the world used to spy on Nations and keep them under Church control. If a Nation tries to free itself from the false Church State alliance, then the ten Kings rain down fire from heaven on their head. Daniel 12:4 mentions that this information would be exposed at the end of the world as the know it. The world will not end, but just false governmental systems. God's Kingdom will destroy and take over the Roman Beast Empire(Daniel 2:44,45). The Bible mentions a time that the Kingdoms of the world become the Kingdoms of God. I encourage the Peoples and Nations to turn over your Kingdoms to God. You will be blessed beyond belief. God is love and wants mankind to live in paradise (1John4:8,9). Are you looking for a leader to give you direction? The Bible says that God sent his son to bring creation back in harmony with him. 1Corinthian 15 mentions that Yeshua(the one people call Jesus) will have all things brought in to subjection to him, and then he will subject all things including himself to God(Hashem). Yeshua is the saviour of the world but is not God, as he subjects himself to God also. If you want to know God's name read Exodus(Shemot/Bamidbar) 6:3. Find it in the Hebrew only. A good source to read is the book of covenants(Seffer Habritot) in Hebrew and English. The Bible/Seffer HaBritot says that, this means everlasting life, the taking in knowledge of Yeshua(Jesus).
