Fiona Bruce and Philip Mould head to a church in the heart of the Lancastrian countryside that may be the home to a work by a 16th-century old master, Francesco Montemezzano.

Delightful!
Such a beautiful piece and a wonderful restoration. I would hope that the Church put some resources to preserve it.
Wonderful documentary!
I understand why you push the "Monetary" value, but it seems more important that by attributing an artist you add this work to the historical record. Now this work can be added locally, and abroad to fill in missing gaps, and help find out when this work left italy to piece together it's journey.
Perhaps this “soldier” stole it.
What a great video. "Scratch the surface and go beneath the dirt." Love it.
Fantastic program and beautiful art now restored
great episode… love learning about the family dynamics and napoleonic history too
The sad part is the painting will go back to what it was in the cold damp burning candle chapel till it is stolen or rots out of its frame.
Astounding. absolutely cracker jack detective work. Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes would be proud.
Magnificent….
That was absolutely fascinating, and totally sensational. Thank you so much for the brilliant work by all the team, and for sharing it with us.
Any Italian Art piece [genuine] must be returned to Italy
So does the church now have to pay for it's security?
Fabulous presentation!
we have that same painting in our church and many more dimnlar. from what I was told they were done by some Italian students. I know theycare over 100 years old. the church caught fire and they were restored. beautiful masterpieces
I am surprised at how inexpensive these art pieces are, 100,000 Pound is a fancy car, while this is a rare and gorgeous painting of a known painter several hundred years old . There will never be an other one, sadly there will be many more Range Rovers.
I would have though a million, some day the market will wake up.
The restoration WOW – my dream job 🙂

you have to love how this soldier while walking somewhere in Italy .. "found" this painting .. such an innocuous word .. what?
Even though it took hundreds of years to get to it's previous condition, twer it me I'd have it in a hermetically sealed enclosure to preserve it for the next few hundred years.
Why is it you view master painting is often rooms on wall in green why is that?
So the conservator is like a British Baumgardner…
Extraordinary. I was transfixed.
