I’ve been lucky enough to take part in a TON of Italian feasts with Eva’s family in Calabria. From Easter to Christmas to every Sunday lunch, each is an epic and unforgettable meal by my non-Italian standards. But THIS one took the cake…
Today I would like to share with you one of the strangest Italian feasts I’ve ever witnessed. It was also, in the end, one of the most beautiful and changed the way I think about food. And it was all centered around ONE dish, cooked in ONE pot.
Hope you enjoy! If you like the video, please give it a thumbs-up and subscribe to the channel!

We hope you guys enjoy meeting our family and seeing a day in the life here! There's a food adventure around every corner 😋 What's a dish or meal that totally surprised you and changed your outlook on food?
I wish I can enjoy life like Italians do ❤😊❤
My lord… that feast looked like heaven
I absolutely love the idea of eating "nose to tail", and I hope we'll see more examples on this channel as time goes by. As for pork fat being "unhealthy"… well, as Eva has pointed out before, Italians enjoy some of the best life expectancy in the world.
It's Aussie, Aussie, Aussie, oy, oy, oy (with feeling)! Gidday from down under.
THIS IS ABSOLUTELY GROSS, but to each his own !
I don't eat meat so its really gross but that's me, hope you guys enjoyed, Harper didn't look to happy about this ???
So much fun- thanks!
I have so many things to say about this but ill be a good person and respect your food choices, but this was gross and yet an insight to the italian way of life !
Me, when the doctor advises me to aim for a Mediterranean diet.
But seriously, my grandmother came from a small poor village in Germany. She taught me to always use every bit of food and not to waste anything. It still gives me a major ick if someone throws away food.
I love Pecorino Cheese
Thank you for sharing this heartwarming experience!!!
There’s nothing like feasting with family and friends!!!
This makes me really miss my childhood in Mexico and the big feasts with all the family! You both are so lucky to be able to still do that ❤️
Animal fat is healthy fat
Buona Festa Famiglia
I LOVE this video! Please make more like this while you're in Italy. By the way, real mice don't like cheese. They love grains. If you put a cheese sandwich on the floor, the mice would eat the bread but leave the cheese.
Aussie Aussie Aussie oi oi oi !!
Cheers from a calabrese down under !!!
We still do this here in Australia
Nice video!! Very engaging from the beginning to the End. I'm new to crypto trade and I have been making huge losses but recently see a lot of people earning from it. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong..
Now that I "devoured" this episode, I am certain I was born into the wonge family. What a special culture and blessing.
Well, it's not just Calabrians! In Sicily we do pork jelly with pig skin, ears, snout and feet. We serve it with lemon and season it with red pepper. More or less the same in the North, they let the jelly solidify, then they cut it into cubes and serve it with pickles (insalata di nervetti). There is also the legendary casoeûla, a stew made with pig leftovers, cabbage and sausages.
Hearing an Italian shout "Aussie Aussie Aussie, Oi Oi Oi" made my day 😂
I know every male has his "man cave", but this is the first time I see a dedicated room/house just for culinary passion! 😁
You'#re getting up before light and working out every morning….on holiday?!? Come on man, have a lie-in, or go for a walk if you must — you're on holiday!!
Non potete capire quanto amo questo canale!…quasi quanto amo le frittole in un bel panino caldo di forno 😂💟
Being born and raised in Reggio, I had never heard the word "salimuari"..but we have the same thing and call it "curcuci"
Your italian might be improving a lot, but to understand this guys you'll have to learn calabrian too, i understood maybe half the stuff they say :D.
This is the most fun video you've done yet. Thank you! And you're right -= inviting people over and cooking for them is the BEST experience in life!
Thank you for reminding us of the beauty of loving family, good friends and delicious food.
Say what you will about the joys of cooking aroma, labors of love, large family gatherings, and tradition, but the bottom line: this meal does not look healthy. However, much like America's Thanksgiving, once a year is not going to kill anyone. I do cherish my pork products, and eating pork dishes in Italy is one of my favorite pastimes when visiting. The Italians do amazing things with pork. I''m not a big fan of offal, but I respect the tradition of respecting the entire animal, and not letting anything go to waste. Terrific video from start to finish. Eva seems to have a fun and loving family. And Harper caught quite a catch in Eva. Nice work.
This might be my favorite episode you guys have ever done, I am crying, and cannot stop thinking about my beautiful mama and papa ❤
Had to rewind and pause on all those pictures, so many wholesome memories 😊
When my nonna was alive(45+) years ago we would celebrate a similar tradition from Calabria with selected pieces of pork including the hocks, skin, feet, etc. Home made wine and sweets were also an integral part. When she passed the tradition continued but the selected pieces of meat diminished. Today we settle for boiled pork meatballs, which everyone loves and are delicious; the wine is not home made, but the sweets and family are! Thanks for the memories.
Beautiful video. Thanks for posting!
I love the story this video told. Thank you for sharing it in such detail. It's such a different lifestyle than what we have in the US, and, I agree, we're missing out somehow because of it.
To let you know just how much I love, appreciate, and respect everything you both do, I watched this and learned a lot. But I’m also vegan.
This is awesome, I remember this when I was little, it was an awesome feast, everyone was always so happy, the trays pasta Forno, the homemade wines and cheeses, deserts were never ending, my father made this stuff called Sussu, it was all the pork scraps, mostly skin and a little meat, he mixed up some plain jello, and mixed in all the scraps, let it cure, then flipped it upside down on a plate and sliced it like a pie, put vinegar and salt and pepper, it was so good. Great video, thanks for the childhood memories. 🇮🇹😎🇮🇹
Beautiful video… Thank you for sharing….I was waiting to see if the pork rendering( for lack of a better name) was going to be something I truly loved and it did, it was the last part, my family made that after they made the sausages and soprasattas…my family called it something else … I'm not sure of the spelling (simud; different Calabrian dialect), and although it is good on toasted bread … it was so delicious on pizza or foccia dough….thank you for reminding me of not just the feast but of time spent with family, and friends ….and why traditions were made and kept.
Beautiful video! I have a question – back home in the States, does Eva ever let Harper cook, and if so, what are his favorite recipes? 😁
What a beautiful family making beautiful, funny memories. <3
