A Czech surrealist horror masterpiece directed by Jaromil Jireš , which falls under the category of the genre called “The Czechoslovak film miracle” or “Novà vlna”, marked by a strong refusal of the censorship, non professional actors and a deep dark humour.
The film portrays a 13-old-girl blended in a sequence of events and people starting from her first period, through a dreamlike pattern soaked into symbolism.
Despite the visually dark and heavy subjects, the screenplay was approved by Czech authorities, probably due to the strong anticlerical statement.
I apologize to anyone who would’ve liked this film to be in english, but the italian version is quite rare, so I chose to prioritise my countrymen on this one, if you don’t mind. Anyway you’ll find the proper subs, just turn them on. Enjoy!
