On January 9th, 2023 around 4 am a majestic oak tree fell on our property. Situated in the middle of our courtyard, the tree was approximately 275 years old. It was a centerpiece for the winery hosting many parties, and picnics, and withstanding earthquakes and fires, however the recent extensive rains we had in the Napa Valley caused it to fall. V. Sattui Winery President Tom Davies talks about this great tree.

Tom, So sorry to hear this. My heart breaks at the loss.
Oh my goodness Tom. She was such a beauty! We have fond memories and hope to visit soon.
Sattui Bros. winery has such a special place in my heart, loved that tree and love your wines. I was on tour with Dan Hicks when the quake hit in 1989, but I made a trip to Napa when we got home and had a picnic near that tree with some friends. All the best and thank you.
Tom, I am so sorry! We are on our way to the winery next weekend. I will bring you a healing hug.
So sorry to see this Tom.
Isn't there anyway you can get a crane lift it up, and pack the bottom with dirt? Cover the roots and feed it…
Maybe you can save it… Cut back broken branches. The quicker the better…
To Beautiful to not try…
Very sad however I am sure you could salvage a lot of timber for milling to make special furniture or presentation wine boxes don't dump this precious tree we have made bowls and jewellery boxes from special trees always remembered when we use them.
It was a majestic beauty. I took pictures of it 4/4/21 (thanks google photos location data). Don't underestimate trees. Trees literally give us life.
Oh wow. How i regret not taking more photos with the tree. I loved seeing it every visit.
This is an eloquent and heartfelt tribute 💕 It’ll be strange to drive by without it there 🌳
That's sad. Maybe they can make something beautiful out of it and plant a baby oak in its memory 🌱🩷
I would put it's wood to good use and plant a new tree in it's place using mulch from it's debri.
Well that’ll make for some very good fire wood.
