Hey guys! Kyle Kelly here and I’m going around Patchogue showing you some of my favorite spots that are maybe a little bit Off The Beaten Path, maybe a spot that you were thinking about checking out but not really sure. So come follow me to some of my favorite spots in town!

Virgola

“Virgola” means, “comma” in Italian actually, so, a way to describe it to customers is it’s kind of a pause or break in everyday life.

This boîte set in a restored 19th-century alley, specializing in Italian wines & East Coast oysters is a great date spot or if you just want a mellow, or be and calm. The ambiance in here is perfect. One of my favorite spots just before dinner for a little appetizer, maybe after dinner for some dessert and wine.

What to Try from Their Menu

About 30 wines from Italy, oysters, a variety of cocktails, seasonal cocktails, anything from gin, tequila, vodka, a couple of scotches, whiskeys, and beers, too.

Salumi Flatbread – has a combination of meats such as Bresaola and Speck (forget bacon!). It also has marinara and cheese put altogether.

The Taste of Italy

They have a placemat that has a map of the region where you’re drinking from, to give you a little description or an idea. (Don’t forget to get flatbread when you grab a glass or even a bottle of wine).

Frascati White Wine – dry white notes of apricot. It’s a delicate finish, towards the line of Chardonnay. If you’re a Chardonnay drinker, you might want to go with the Frascati. It’s really nice and you definitely get that nice citrus in there.

Gavi di Gavi – a good alternative for Pinot Grigio drinkers. It’s really fruity.

Italian Pinot Noir – if you’re a Noir Drinker you might want to go with a “Montepulciano”. A little earthiness to it, it should go nice with the Salumi Flatbread.

Nero d’Avola – a taste of strawberries. It’s more like a tobacco flavor; dry. It’s great with Felino and Bresaola.

Location

You can go sit in their nice little courtyard where some may let the kids run around and play.

It’s just nice to be able to hang out in town, have a nice, chill vibe, enjoy a bottle of wine, and not necessarily have to go out to The Vineyards for it (as much as I do love the North Fork and The Vineyards), but it’s right here in Patchogue, right here in the New Village on Main Street. I’ll call it “Off the Beaten Path” because it’s not directly on Main Street. You come into the New Village and Virgola is located right in the back, in the retail section of New Village – one of my favorite spots.

On the next episode of Off The Beaten Path, join us as we go back to the Roaring 20’s and visit this prohibition-style steakhouse chops right here on Main Street.
