The idea to build a house out of shipping containers was definitely one of the wildest ones we’ve had and if you’ve been joining our weekly videos for any amount of time you know that’s saying something, we’re confident it will work out in the long run but it’s a big setback.

How did we get here?
After a year of full time travel living the van life, we had to adapt when the world changed. To keep busy we’ve converted our tiny house on wheels into a fully functioning off grid home that has everything we need. Realizing that none of us know how long this new normal will stick around, we made the decision that building a home here was the best decision we could make. We’ve spent the last year doing EVERYTHING involved with coordinating and planning the build ourselves as well as setting up this off grid property to be able to provide us with the the food we’ll need in the future. That led us to needing a place to live while we realized our dream of building a shipping container home. After lots of searching we finally discovered Geodesic Dome’s and it was the perfect fit for us while we took our time with the container home.

We wanted to say a quick thank you to all of you who left comments of love and support in last week's episode…seeing how many of you are in our corner rooting for us when we were feeling so low was an incredible feeling. We can't get over how many amazing ideas there were to fix the problem of accessing the upstairs, it's hard to put into words but it's just such a weight lifted off of us. There's of course still work to do to get everything finalized but in the meantime, we've got HEAT and Christmas is in full swing…ALSO, you wouldn't believe how much convincing it took to make Tyler leave in that entire Christmas decorating section of the video hahaha. He is literally the cutest but definitely cannot handle the strength of my home brew😂. In all seriousness, there are things we'd normally cut out of the videos (like the end at the river) that we're starting to leave in and that's because of how safe and comfortable this community makes us feel. I could've never imagined we'd be able to open up in such a vulnerable way to hundreds of thousands of you ever week but thank you, the trust and love means more than we could ever say xoxo

I only found your channel yesterday and I love you guys. You are funny, so cute, and such a sweet couple. I 100% agree with being at the store on Dec 26th. My husband and I also do lots of decorating both inside and out. We look for new items when the stores put everything on sale at the beginning of December and of course the day after Christmas. My Christmas village has gotten quite a bit larger in the last couple years. I LOVE it! Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Wishing you both a very Merry Christmas. With another CANADIAN WINTER staring U'all in the face I think the getting of that fire place installed really was a "Game Changer"! I personally absolutely HATE being COLD ! ! ! ! ! ! so now that you can be comfortable (TEMPERATURE WIZE) inside your container home, your ingenuity will once again kick in and you'll figure out the HOW TO's of getting that problem with the spiral staircase solved. I just want to say that of ALL the container homes I have seen built on youtube, YOURS is BY FAR the collest design that I have seen yet ! ! ! I Especially like how OPEN the ground level is. If I was doing it I probably would have went UP one more level, just cause I like the view from up high looking out the windows on everything below. So I'd have put two containers on top of the bottom 3 and then one last one on top of that, so 6 containers total.
Which brings me to a question I've had since I saw my first container home build video….
HOW MUCH does just one container cost? AND…what was the additional cost of welding those bottom 3 together with those I-BEAMS in the ceiling? I would think that just those two pieces of steel cost a pretty BIG chunk of change !?!!
Your new home REALLY IS going to be SPECTACULAR ! ! ! ….and you can count on ME to be watching EVERY EPISODE of your building process! U2 really ARE AMAZING! ….but of course the rest of your FAMILY….(Lillie, Charlie and Eddy)….make the watching EVEN BETTER, so give them an extra treat for THEIR participation!
