Cathrine and Erik build houses in Italy and live on a boat.

Here we show you how and why we build Casa nel Bosco, in Piemonte/Italy.

What would you do if your beloved uncle and travel companion became paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair?

Watch this episode about the thoughts, death, special features, challenges, and designing a modern house in old stone, for families with or without a disabled family member.
All in the woods on a mountainside in sunny hills of Piemonte.

We also tell you what to do and what not to do when building on a ruin.

Casa nel Bosco is located in a small charming village called Roccaverano in the Asti provins.
Piemonte, Italy.

  1. Beautiful location, the textured wall plaster inside is a beautiful colour. The compassion behind this project is admirable, much respect and sorry for your loss. 🙏🙂

  2. Beautiful project, simple elegance. Thank you for sharing. I was wondering which paint you used on the doors inside.

  3. You two are inspiring. I have a granddaughter in a wheelchair so telling and showing us how you were accommodating your dear uncle touched my heart. You were very kind to set out on this path and finish it with him in mind even though you lost him in the beginning. It speaks very well of you.

  4. Gosh you guys are amazing and good hearted to specially make a home designed around your uncle's needs. My father is also in a wheelchair because of his age and I am trying just to get the bathroom where he can walk into the shower and its so expensive here in the USA, everyone wants to charge you an arm and a leg just to change out the shower pan base.

Anyway, I love that idea that you guys have this house wheelchair ready.

I am so happy you guys showed us this house and how you got it built, I loveeeeeeeeeee this idea, I think that is the way I would have to buy a house in Italy now, you guys have convinced me that this is the right way to do it. I am happy to have found your channel and you guys have giving me hope , because that is what I really wanted, a modern house from the inside and original stonework from the outside, that is such a brilliant idea.

Now I have to search for a house in your area to be able to do what you guys have done, is there a way to get an idea to find out , how much something like that would cost? To knock down a house and do what you did, just a rough figure, but without the swimming pool, I don't think I can afford a pool plus I love to swim in the salty water of the sea. Also, what area are you guys in, so I can find something not too far from you guys, so you can work on this project for me in the future. I do like Piemonte area, even though I have not been yet, but in the future I will. Thank you and regards

  5. Great project designing for wheelchair bound persons. I wonder why you don’t have grab bars in the bathroom near the toilet and in the shower?

  6. I’m completely impressed with what you’ve both done, you make it look so easy. I’ve heard nothing but horror stories about rebuilding a home in Italy. You’ve found the recipe it seems. Congratulations!!!

  7. I love what you have done in this house. Open spaces and larger door spaces are something everyone needs… thanks! Personally, I love the bidet in a toilet. Here in Japan, most new houses and apartments have 'one piece two functions' toilets… excellent. I don't see that here?
