Saturday the 27th August in Rieti, Italy. I was invited to appear and co-host at an international chilli-eating contest by my friend Arturo Rencricca and the organisers at the HUGE Fiera Mondiale Campionaria Del Peperoncino di Rieti Festival!
This was a huge event with a huge crowd. Four brave competitors took to the stage to represent their countries – Carmelo from ITALY, Xioa from CHINA, Anna from POLAND and Noor from Tunisia!
This was one of the most wonderful experiences I have had on my chilli journey so far! I really hope to go back to Italy next year. If you are reading this and you love anything to do with chillies, you must pay Rieti a visit when the next festival takes place!

That is one epic crowd! You looked at home there on the stage, Shen – and it looked like you even had fun! Both of the end contestants really deserve massive applause. There was nothing between them right until the end. Great competition!
