Inspired by his love of mid-century design, architect and furniture dealer Jacobo Valentí of Casavells estudio completely transformed this 34sqm attic apartment using a combination of original mid-century furniture he had been collecting for years and cleverly adapted Ikea pieces. Valentí redesigned the kitchen in two separate opposing sections, creating a central corridor in the middle of the apartment. He also split the bathroom in two, keeping the toilet near the entrance and adding an open shower next to the new terrace, converted from 3sqm of existing indoor space. The versatile, open plan living area is used for sleeping, dining and working and contains a dual purpose ikea sleeper sofa with a custom wood frame. This acts as a dining table/desk seat and guest bed when needed. For storage, a customized original Danish unit that sits opposite the bed is paired with a mirror-clad Ikea closet. A projector, mounted above the bed, projects directly onto the far wall. Meticulously selecting and customising his furniture allowed Valentí to balance the old with the new and give his home a unique second life.

  1. @1:46 Antoni Gaudí – Passeig de Gràcia 92, Barcelona (Eixample)
one more is in Passeig de Gràcia 45 💒

  2. You can't fool a good dog. Ron is obviously living his best life — and we can see why. Such comfortably creative use of space, incorporating pieces that have significance for the owner and making quietly surprising use of space. This one is a lasting favorite.

  3. i appreciate this space and his honesty in using Ikea furniture. the design & furnishings are very functional and purposeful. it’s very interesting to keep the shower stall open, but i do like the yellow tile ☀️

  4. This is one of my favorite appartments in this channel. It's just so stylish and comfy, it seems like a place where you could spend hours.

  5. I love those yellow tiles in the ‘bathroom’ – beautiful mustard-gold.

  6. This apartment feels like a home and not just a project. I love the mix of old and new furniture and the warm colours. The way the apartment is designed is so clever; it gives you a sense of space and the terrace is a true jewel. This is one of my favourite apartments. Thanks for sharing it with us!

  7. I had to rewind. Did he say his bathroom is next to the terrace with great views and part of the main living area? 😐 Gotta go back and see where the toilet is. Fascinating choice.

  8. Really love the Perriand cabinet, it reminds me of old kitchens from scandinavian functionalism in the way its tilted which fits very well with the other wooden details and the danish side board. Well done, this is my new favourite as it really feels like a home!

  9. the open shower and sink right beside the bed might not be my cup of tea but boy it made this home stands out from the others. simply unforgettable!

  10. Very specific and personalized use of a space. I recognize a deep thought in this transformation, and I can see that it is perfectly suited to the way he uses it, but I sure would hate to live here because to me, it feels like no space has a different use than another, but that everything is stacked like geological layers. Contrary to the majority feeling here, the result for me is a feeling of suffocation despite the bay windows, the light, the mirrors and the huge white wall. I hesitate between two impressions, but neither would allow me to feel at ease in this apartment… Either it seems to me to have a shower and a bed that takes up space in the middle of a tiny kitchen-living room, either I feel like an oversized apartment has been forced into a stuffy hotel room with an unbearable open bathroom (a very fashionable concept, but I can't stand it, sorry )… In short, I find it beautiful and I'm sure it's exactly what he needed, but I wouldn't want to live ther…Lucky you are: as everyone seems to love it, I won't be a competitor when he'll sell it and you all will fight to to buy it 😁

  11. Hey there! First, love love love your content. very inspiring and high quality yet remaining approachable and warm. Thanks! Looking forward to every new episode 🙂 QUESTION: does the Nebula offer need a discount code?

  12. The finishes in this are excellent. The one thing I don’t like about most architect designs is that they use all flat white surfaces with light wood accents, making them somewhat bland and interchangeable. Period finishes such as this are so much more interesting and it’s great to match the vintage of the building.

  13. This studio became one of my favs in this channel. Love the warm feeling of entire space and interesting ideas of making bathroom and terrace. Thanks a lot for sharing it. This inspires me so much on how to make creative layouts

  14. What an incredibly sweet and neat little space! I'm reminded of the films by Jeunet/Caro (City of lost Children, Delicatessen, Amelie)… the colors and textures and quirkiness are so… charming! The shower by the balcony with the sink by the bed, the angled kitchen cabinets… wow! Showering in that must be a pleasure, with the urge to "air dry" on a hot summers day too powerful to pass up!
