The Palazzo Pitti is one of the most famous buildings in Florence, Italy. The palace was originally built by Luca Pitti in 1458 and it has been passed down through the family. It was once used as a residence for the Medici family and later became a grand ducal palace. As a result, it has been used as an exhibition hall for some of the most important art exhibitions in Florence.

The palace was designed by Michelozzo di Bartolomeo for Cosimo de’ Medici, the grandson of Lorenzo the Magnificent. The Palazzo Pitti was mainly used as a residence for the Medicis until 1549 when Cosimo I de’ Medici, Grand Duke of Tuscany moved his court to Florence from Pisa.

The Palazzo Pitti is considered to be one of the most important examples of Renaissance architecture in Italy. It also houses some of Florence’s most famous pieces such as Raphael’s “Madonna della Seggiola”.
