Welcome to Italian wine travel – Soave Classico region, near Verona (Ca’ Rugate Winery, On The Road interview) – another installment of On The Road Edition hosted by Stevie Kim. In this episode Stevie continues her visit to the Ca’ Rugate winery in Montecchia di Crosara near Verona, in the heart of Soave Classico. Here she sits down with the owner Michele Tessari to discuss the winery and taste three key wines: Amedeo Lessini Durello Riserva, Monte Fiorentine Soave Classico and Punta 470 Amarone della Valpolicella. But before the tasting Michele Tessari tells Stevie the winery history linked to his family. The wine production started at the beginning of the XX century and now the winery is extended 90 hectares, it produces 12 labels and it’s completely organic. During the tasting Stevie and Michele taste 3 flagship wines of Ca’ Rugate, three of the most important DOC of Verona.

Ca’ Rugate is a winery with more than 100 years of history linked to the Tessari family for four generations and the Rugate hill near the centre of Bronoligo. Already at the beginning of the 20th century, Amedeo Tessari started producing his own wine, thus beginning the history of Ca’ Rugate. His son Fulvio and his grandson Amedeo produced the first bottles under the Ca’ Rugate brand name. In 2001 the fourth generation joined the company and a process of renewal began. Today Ca’ Rugate is a company rooted in the territory but with an international outlook, with 90 hectares of its own vineyards and a production that knows how to respect tradition and embrace innovation.
