(12 Dec 1997) RR9750/B: ISRAEL/ITALY: COOKING FOR PEACE
(Dur: 5 mins. 11 secs/english sot 1 min. 24 secs)
When fast food first arrived in Italy in the eighties, horrified Italian gourmets founded a society dedicated to the enjoyment of fine cuisine. They named it “Slow Food” and soon chefs from all over the world were joining. There are now over 100,000 members in more than 35 countries. Recently at the organisation’s Second International Congress in Italy, one of the highlights of the event was a peace meal cooked by a team of Palestinian and Israeli chefs, working together for the first time. It was a unique meal where political differences were put aside for a common aim, good food. All those who sampled the cooking hoped that it would be the start of many more joint projects.
