(1 Jun 2021) Italy lifted restrictions on indoor dining on Tuesday and Italians rushed to the coffee bars for their espressos and cappuccinos.
“One coffee gives us the feeling of living serenely again,” said Paolo Leoni whilst drinking an espresso at the Toraldo Café in the center of Rome.
Leoni was joined by a crowd of Italians and tourists enjoying pastries, espressos and cappuccinos.
“Seeing the place fill up again after almost four months gives me a huge sense of satisfaction,” said owner Alessandro Rappini, “Let’s just hope they don’t make us close again.”
Italy has been under various level of coronavirus restrictions since March 2020 when the country went into total lockdown as the virus spread rapidly.
To date over 126,000 people in Italy have died from Covid-19 but a successful vaccine campaign has dramatically brought down the number of cases and the country is slowly coming back to normal.
Nearly 35 million people in Italy have received at least one dose of the vaccine, over half the population.
