The AmEx business credit card also gives Marriott gold! It's a great card!
I will stick with my Hilton set up
🚢 If I were Marriott I’d try doing something different, it’s cash credits per paid night stayed. For example 3, $50 dollar credits could move the needle and the card would appeal to someone staying at Marriott’s less expensive brands.
Yea, these cards suck. Maybe it's okay with a $95 annual fee, but at $250 they're just garbage. I have no idea what they were thinking with these cards.
Part of the problem for hotels it that they haven’t managed to load up their product with fees that they can waive as a perk for status. Look at airlines, checked baggage fees, seat selection fees, up charges based on where you sit. Kind of garbage but it makes it easy to justify getting a credit card if it means you save on a 30$ checked baggage fee every time you fly. What do hotels have… not a lot. Some have spa services and dining but they are separate and not required to use the core lodging product.
🚢 These cards I think are just a downgrade path for people not willing to take the upgrades on the Brilliant. I personally really like what they've done on the Brilliant so happy to pay the extra fee for Platinum and the upgraded certificate. The signup bonus on the Bevy is interesting as well, but long run I think the Brilliant is the one to keep if you are invested in the Bonvoy ecosystem. I love your ideas about this card enabling certificate usage benefits like an extended expiry or increased points top up above the 15k. I might hold this as well as the Brilliant just for those benefits… Would probably spend 15k a year on the card, in a 4x category for the extra certificate as well.
With the 1K bonus points per stay on these cards and the 7% discount on the Business card, it seems like Marriott is experimenting with non-status benefits on their cards. I think they could add a discount on dining at Marriott hotels or on resort fees. In addition to helping cardholders justify the annual fee, this should encourage people to spend with Marriott instead of competitors.
🚢Is it worth getting card just for the 125k bonus? What would be the best Marriott setup?
take something for that sore throat!
Marriot has screwed their customers over so many times with devaluations…I guess a few months pass by and people forget the meaning of being "bonvoyed"……
How does farming the Ritz Carlton card work?
SEBBY HELP!! This is one my new cards I have going on an year. I have it connected to Uber since I use that a lot building my points. Should I get rid of it or product change? I was so finally happy to get a base credit card. I have the $95 annual fee Marriott bonvoy boundless card.
🛳️ I have a $10,000 purchase coming up, what card or cards should I apply for to maximize value?(I really like the aspire..) I do have a player 2 as well.
Great video, but can't think of improvement ideas this early in the morning. I would say Marriott needs to figure out what they want to do for their customers. Throwing out these cards will only create churn, not loyalty! If Marriott cared about loyalty they would start to do things for their members and get other, newer members. Then they will see a profit. Until then they are chasing a quick buck and they will lose eventually.
Following AMEX style, I'd suggest 2 credits of $100 (bi-annual like the Saks credit) when spending $200 or more on Marriott properties. You can potentially offset most of the annual fee and they can promote spending on the card even if you have more than 1 Marriott card 🚢
As a regular Starbucks customer, I like my Starbucks Visa Card. My current reward stars balance is 7,000 .
Lost me on this one with all the analogies. Keep it short.
these are the worst credit card releases I've ever seen in 10 years! makes no sense to get them!
Loved your Maldives Easter Egg Counter….so funny!!!
I like the benefit idea you had for no expiration date FNC's….what about extra days towards platinum???…..or maybe actual day stays count double??? i mean we are all trying to get to platinum's sweet spot anyways….just think….this would make it interesting to have WITH the Brilliant – platinum & then business for getting to the next tier, no?
If you upgrade a credit card, let’s just say Chase Southwest Rapid Rewards to a Chase Sapphire Preferred, does that count towards the 5/24 thing?
The main benefit of the Bevy/Bountiful cards is the 1k bonus points per stay. If you have 40-50 stays a year, that gets you 40-50k Marriott points which can offset the $250 annual fee (depending on how much you value Marriott points, 0.6 cpp is common). The free night certificate is not really worth it, you could put that 15k spend on a 2% card and get $300 which is much more flexible than a 50k certificate that expires after a year.
I was intrigued at first but i really dont like that the rewards can only be soent one way at one company. Thats what makes the sapphire so fantastic, especially with the transfer to travel partners. Hyatt ends up being way better than marriot anyhow.
Still nothing is more useless than the boa travel card lol
I have a question. You talk so much about the Maldives. How good is it there. A lot of videos I see you use your trips to Maldives. Can you make a video on the Maldives? Have a bunch of power nts to redeem and would love a random trip. How was your trip?
So are credit cards good at all? I got a Capital One and owe $605. I’m a pay it off tomorrow. I only use it for restaurants and minor things. If I don’t use it, they’ll close it, BUT interest rates dramatically increased! Should I still keep it?
🚢
🛳 you're the best Sebby
So the Chase version is better because everyone will want to downgrade after 1 year and they have cheaper options?
🚢
What do you think about the Naval Credit Union Flagship reward card vs other exclusive armed forces card like USAA ?
Thank you
Speaking of hotel cards trying to incentivize spend, I don't see anyone talking about the World of Hyatt card promotions they've had recently. For Q3, they had 5x Hyatt points on groceries, gas, and home improvement stores (up to $1500 combined spend), and I recently got an email that for Q4, they're doing 10x Hyatt points on Gas and 5x at groceries and Amazon up to the same $1500 combined spend. Hyatt points are really valuable and they seem to be intentionally not having too much overlap with the Chase Freedom categories. It's been like having an extra Freedom card on top of all its other benefits, plus 10x on Gas this quarter is awesome!
I'm not entirely sure how those high of multipliers are profitable for them but hopefully they keep having these promotions! Maybe they're making money in some other way? Or are their own points really that heavily discounted that they still make a profit from interchange fees even when giving out 10x?
Chase boundless is the way to go if getting into the Marriott field.
🚢 Where did Mandy go?
Sebby, could the Wells Fargo Autograph card be the best credit card of this year? Really curious to see if you'll do a review of it. I am interested at all of the 3x multipliers with no foreign transaction fee!
Is it my imagination or is the Hilton ecosystem far superior to Marriott's ? I know Hilton points are worth somewhat less than Bonvoy points, however the multiples for Hilton are huge. The no-fee Hilton AMEX is 7x for the hotels and the $95 Surpass card is 12x. Also you get 5 or 6x for gas and some other categories, 3x for everything else. You also get Hilton Gold which is another 100% bonus for your Hotel points you get for staying in a Hilton. My experience is that they throw in a lot of other goodies from time to time. Best of all, Hilton has only 3 cards and 3 loyalty categories. They are all generous, fairly easy to understand and unlimited.
🛳️🛳️🛳️🛳️😂 you da man
