Italian TV chef Gino D’Acampo was left furious when Gordon Ramsay told him that he thinks Greek food was better than Italian food, and @ITV fans were in stitches
The word Italia comes from Greek. Southern Italy was so Greekified that even the tribes living in the interior ( who also had a similar origin to the Greeks) eventually were influenced by the few hundred Coastal ( and some inland) Greek colonies. Gino never mentioned this once. He is acting dumb on purpose.
He is from Torre del Greco, ( tower of the Greeks) a commune of Napoli ( everyone knows Neapolis was founded by Greeks) and he never mentioned this means he is playing dumb to appeal to the audience.
Go and ask a Calabrian from Bovesia or a Puglian from Grecia Salentina the same question.
They even still have many Greek dishes. Mind you Olives, Wine, and even Southern Italy favourite cheese has Greek origins. But many Greek staples have Italian origins too. Loukaniko sausages for example. In fact many great Greek philosophers, writers, military leaders, doctors etc were born in Italy.
The truth is that Southern Italy and Greece are and were very close. Up to 400 years ago Greek was still the main language in most of Calabria and Puglia. 500 years ago in Sicily and 900 years ago in Naples.
Point aside from reading all the comments about whose food is better. There is no such thing as a pure cuisine. Food and ingredients travel regionally and now globally. 525 years ago Greeks, Italians, Turks had never eaten tomoates, a pepper a potato or eaten a real bean except for Fava. Now tomatoes are such a base in Mediterranean food. Look at India.. Indians never new what Chilis or potatoes were either. Now more than ever people adapt food and recipes to their own tastes. There are days I prefer Italian and days I prefer Greek. And some days neither. There is no better. Its all based on ingredients and preparation.
I find that most Italians seem really snobbish about their foods and the fact that many of the dishes have origins in Greek cuisine doesn't get enough recognition
I definitely Disagree with a cuisine being better than another as everyone is special in their own way Greece does deserve more notice for its food then France or Italy as Gordon said but no one is definitely better than the other but here’s an interesting fact that a lot of people don’t know most of Greece’s olives are exported to Italy .
Italian and Greek foods are similar. Not identical, but similar. Mediterranean diet is well known to be healthy and satisfying. That's why Italians, Greeks and Spanish live longer and better. I'm Italian, I ever eaten Mediterranean, I'm 37 years old and I'm looking like 18. That's actually a bit annoying to me, that's why I decided to grow up my bear, so no younglings will confuse me for one of them. Call me "Sir", please… PLEASE! 🥺
Greek food is healthy, refined and with simplistic elegance.
I can’t speak towards Italian because I know there are many local variations from north to south, but overall I’m not a fan of pasta and especially not of the more fat and lard laden sauce and food northern Italian varieties.
Greeks grow fresh, use simple spices and let the ingredients speak for themselves, that is the secret of good Greek food, local, fresh ingredients!
I have spend many of my childhood summers in greece (corfu) i remember a fun few days i had on a boat in my teens eating everything we could find in the sea. From octopus to those spike thing (sea urgin or so) loved it all. Only food in the world i like more is Indonesian but greek food is a solid number 2 on my list.
Gonna have to agree with Gordon here. Been to Italy and Greece. Greek food tastes fantastic. Also Greek Olives. Better than any Olives I've ever tasted
Well, the Italian cuisine is famously overrated. Hello. it's all about pasta, tomatoes and herbs. I mean it does taste good but at the end of the day is just boring. There is nothing special about it just has a good PR. Look at the Spanish cuisine, not to mention French. Even Russian cuisine is far more sophisticated than Italian. Wake up and smell the invisible flower.
Italian did drones on fields and sell it as their olive oil Poor them Greece is and stay having best olive oil Pizza is from Turkey Italy copy the most But ok its good But the og of Kitchen is 🇬🇷🇬🇷🇬🇷
I love Italian food, but I honestly like Greek food better. Italian food is more intricate and perfection when it comes to pastas and sauces. Greek food is definitely simpler but fresher, lighter and has more salads and seafood.
Greek food is better, more diverse and healthier. Italian is marinara and shit. Then comatose for 4 hrs. 100% agree with Ramsey. And pizza btw is of greek descent.
practical Greek and Italian kitchen are the 2 best in the world..i cant say which is better both are excellent. ps you forget something Greeks and Italians are brother nations
i love how yall trynna hate on greek or italian food which both are subcategories to meditarenan cuisine . Lots of similarities both are great . I'm giving the edge to greek food but still u cant cancel one and say the other one is better 🤣 . Also americans please dont participate in the convo yall national dishes are burgers and coca cola foh .

Aa Gordone, impara a cucinare la carbonara senza panna e piselli e poi puoi citare l'Italia.
Lmao Gordon geeks moe😂
Clearly both fail in comparison to our British cuisine. Our Indian and Chinese takeaways are renowned, not to mention going to the chippy.
What ? Ramsay said that ?
