Wine-Searcher’s Wine Director, David Allen, MW tastes Pieropan Le Combare Recioto di Soave 2016, a sweet desert wine made in the Soave region of Italy by drying grapes after they are picked.
Pieropan is an Italian estate in the northeastern wine-producing region of Veneto. For generations the estate has dedicated itself to the making of Soave Classico wines, for which is it considerably famous.
The company can trace its origins back to the late 19th Century and the village of Soave. Leonildo Pieropan established the estate at Palazzo Pullici and since then successive generations of the Pieropan family have taken on the responsibilities of the estate.
Evidently the reference to 1906 on the label of this Recioto related to previous vintages of this wine achieving success at the Milan Wine Fair in that year!
