🇮🇹 1 — BEST TIME TO VISIT ROME and best time time to visit Italy

If you want to visit Rome forget about July and august.
As it’s excruciatingly hot!
40.. 45 .. 47 degrees Celsius. Easy! August in Rome

Winter in Rome is hit and miss. The weather is usually dry but chilly and the biggest issue you will find are the short days: many attractions close early in winter so make sure you check beforehand if you are planning to visit a lot of places in one day.

The best time of all to visit Rome for the first time are the spring (with the exception of the Easter weeks) and autumn, especially May and September with October.

🇮🇹 2 — CLOTHES: How to Dress in Rome and in Italy

Bring comfortable walking shoes

In Rome, you will find yourself walking a lot, part because of the lack of good transport and part for the pleasure of it.

Dress for churches

The Vatican is the place with stricter rules: here, you must avoid sleeveless tops, shorts (this is true for men and women) and skirts above the knee.

Check list if you are planning to visit any of Roman churches or Vaticano itself:
– shoulders are closed
– Knees are covered
– Hats are remover
– Bulky handbags and especially backpacks are removed
– NO FLIP FLOPS!

Please don’t wear your flip flops in Rome! It’s not classy, it’s not stylish or fashionable.. it’s just .. no class..

✅ Have a crossbody bag

Rome is crowded and pick-pocketing misadventures are not unheard of. Opt for a cross-body bag for maximum security and never ever leave it unattended or hanging off the back of your chair at a restaurant.

🇮🇹 3 — EATING IN ROME / EATING IN ITALY

But if it’s your first ever time in Rome let me tell you some basic eating .. and drinking rules of this country.

Breakfast –
Breakfast is very light in Italy. Just a cup of coffee and a pastry.

About coffee now:
No milky coffee after lunch time – forget about ordering cappuccino or caffe latter at 4pm.

Dinner – Traditional Italian dinner starts really late.
If you usually have your dinner at 6pm. It’s not going to happen anywhere in Italy.

✅ Learn a few words of Italian
You do not need to speak Italian to enjoy Rome but a few words go a long way.

‘Per favore’ (please) and ‘grazie’ (thank you) will be sufficient in most touristy places to be treated a little better – Romans are notoriously grumpy but making an effort with the language may even win you a smile.

🇮🇹 5 – Always have ID on you in Italy

In Italy it is compulsory to have ID on you at all times so make sure you have some form of identification on you.

🇮🇹 6 – Carry cash when you are in Italy

Credit and debit cards are usually accepted in restaurants and hotels but they are no good for small purchases: you cannot buy gelato with them nor pay for small souvenirs or street food so having some cash is paramount.

🇮🇹 7 – Don’t rely on wi-fi in Italy 🇮🇹

Wi-fi is dreadful in Rome. When you open the ‘available networks’ screen you may be surprised to see many are free stay assured: the vast majority of them do not work!

8 – Avoid public transport
Few experiences are more irritating in Rome than having to deal with the city’s public transport system.

🇮🇹 9 – Decide how many days to stay

Don’t visit Rome only! I know it’s the capital, I know it’s beautiful, I know it’s full of history..
but other Italians cities are so beautiful too!! They all are full of history!
