Serralunga d’Alba is an Italian town of 530 inhabitants of the province of Cuneo, in Piedmont. Serralunga Castle was built between 1340 and 1357 at the behest of the family of Falletti: fascinating for its verticality dotted with mullioned windows, merlons and brackets hanging arches. Built as a military fortress in it they are not in fact present furnishings since it has never been lived in by the family Falletti but it was home of the only soldiers that this castle repelled the attacks of the invaders. Of particular interest are the fifteenth-century frescoes in the Salone dei Valvassori, representing the martyrdom of Catherine of Alexandria, also unique within the entire castle has undergone minor adjustments over the centuries but which has practically intact the original structure . It is a “Donjon” (from the French Dungeon), this feature makes it unique on the national scene with the circular tower which by then was a building well ahead. Since 2007 he is part of the circuit of 8 castles, better known as Castelli Doc. The network of castles include the castles of Grinzane Cavour, Barolo, Serralunga d’Alba, Govone, Magliano Alfieri, Roddi, Mango and Benevello. It is also inserted in the circuit of “Open Castles” Southern Piedmont.
