THE STORY.
The original owner of the Castle was a Fiat dealer in Italy who commissioned the famed designer and architect Carrera in the late 1920s to build the castle. It was a 10-year project, and currently sits atop an ancient circular “ghiacciai” icebox which is still visible today from the ground floor. He had two children who died young and you will see the plaque still displayed on the grounds in their honor. Unfortunately, the owner died before it was completed, and his wife kept ownership of the Castle well into the 60s. Everything in the castle is original, including furnishings, stained glass windows, and chandeliers made of Murano glass and forged metal – all one of a kind. Maintaining their originality and lasting craftsmanship true to the era, they have all been restored. The current owners are the 4th owners of the castle, and other than clean and restore the original structure and furnishings, they have replaced some of the walkways with stone, marble and granite, and replaced the electrical system, the furnace and the boiler. Everything is up to code. Both owners are artists, and when asked why they purchased the castle, they said it was because of the WOW factor and THEY LOVE ART. See more at www.Castellobalzola.com
