Thuy’s New Thing For the Week was to learn how to make an Italian frozen dessert — Gelato! Will she be successful even without a gelato maker??
Here are the #ingredients:
– 4 medium egg yolks
– 3/4 cup sugar
– 1 1/2 cup whole milk
– 1 heavy cream
– 1 tsp vanilla extract
-A little lemon zest
1. Whip egg yolks with sugar for 5 minutes.
2. Pour milk into saucepan & bring it almost to a boil. Cook for 5 minutes.
3. Transfer egg & sugar cream to saucepan. Pour in the hot milk slowly while mixing.
4. Add vanilla extract & lemon zest. Cook for another 5 minutes. Make sure it does not boil & stir continuously.
5. Turn off heat & add heavy cream. Mix well.
6. Pour mixture into a container & place in freezer for 5 hours. Every 30 minutes, remove from freezer & mix for about 30 seconds using a hand whisk.
7. After at least 5 hours, scoop gelato & enjoy!
