In 1498, the Duke of Milan (Ludovico Sforza) gave as a gift to Leonardo the vineyard while he was working on the painting of The Last Supper in the Cathedral of Santa Maria delle Grazie across the street.
The cultivar planted was Malvasia. Malvasia wine is still produced today in the premises.
