Been to Venice 3 times and still an amazing place. Very easy to get away from the crowds and there are still some cheap eats if you search for it. After St Marks Square, wander without a map and get lost. Eat at local Cicchetti sandwich bars (near Gondala repair shops) and have cheap wine and espresso. Also lots of places like pasta to go – near bus stop.
