Anthonij Rupert Wyne estate is one of the most innovative and intriguing wine farms on the Franschhoek Wine Route. Named after Johann Rupert’s late brother this is indeed a very special wine enterprise that has integrated both wine and fine agricultural practices. Among them are their homegrown black truffles, the most impressive to be found in South Africa and their own top quality Terra del Cappo olive oil.
It was Johann Rupert who introduced a state of the art winemaking facility concentrating on terroir specific wines and focussing on the best viticultural sites, introducing optical sorting, never hesitating to improve. Rupert wines today encapsulate six distinctive wine brands. The grapes are sourced from a number of their extensive prime vineyards in Darling, Swartland and Elandskloof just north of Villiersdorp as well as their home farm L’Ormarins and other very special sites, especially the Old Vine parcels around the Winelands. Their fruit is vinified in four superb state of the art cellars on the estate by an able team with international experience, headed by winemaker Dawie Botha. One of these particular cellars you will find interesting is their Cape of Good Hope facility with Amphora shaped Italian concrete tanks.
There are many highlights on this showpiece estate with the backdrop of the splendid Groot Drakenstein Mountains. The two delightful wine tasting venues; the elegant and historic Manor House and the Terra Del Capo. Enjoy the Terra Del Capo restaurant with their excellent antipasti menu designed to show off the Italian inspired Terra Del Capo range of wines. Do make sure you book a memorable scenic tram ride and visit their impressive Franschhoek Motor Museum.
