Torraiolo Chianti Classico Riserva, from Tuscany is located in the heart of Tuscany. It is produced by one of the top names in Italian wine: Castellani. The Castellani Family have produced classic wines in Tuscany for more than 150 years. The current owner, Piergiorgio Castellani, is the 6th generation owner & winemaker. He is also an advocate for environmentally friendly practices in winemaking. “The quality of the wine begins in the vineyard”.
Piergiorgio is also extremely kind, engaging and adventurous and his passion is contagious. Torraiolo is produced from specially selected Sangiovese grapes grown in the vineyards of Chianti Classico appellation. (The most ancient are in Chianti). Here there are sandy & clay soils, rich in river pebbles, ideal for Sangiovese! Only perfectly mature grapes are used in its production. When fermentation is complete, the wine is stored in Slavonian oak casks where it ages for a minimum period of 24 months. It completed its refinement in bottle for a further 3 years.
Torraiolo is 100% Sangiovese. It is a DOCG classification, the highest quality level of Italian wines. (Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin). It is a “Riserva” designation which are only produced in the best years. This ia a very elegant Sangiovese with an intense bouquet of dark fruits with a hint of violet. Full-bodied, dry and balanced on the palate with notes of dark chocolate, plums and black cherries.
This is a family owned & operated estate. They only use organic and natural farming techniques, no chemical treatments. This is the ideal pairing with roasts, duck, salmon, pasta & pizza. It is a unique & memorable wine and extremely high quality for this price point.
