We spent 48 hours exploring the historical and beautiful city of Florence! We also share with you our Italo first class experience from Venice to Florence. With limited time, we went to some iconic places such as the Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, the majestic Boboli Gardens, Piazzale Michelangelo for sunset, and the Accademia Gallery to see the statue of David. Here we are in Firenze – the birth place of the Renaissance! The start to our visit was fantastic with a Club Executive ride on the Italo train, from Venice to Florence. We also managed to book a cozy one-bedroom suite in a quiet neighbourhood yet not far from some of the major landmarks that we hoped to see.
Our Stay:
Everything that must be on your itinerary for your first trip to Florence is all found in close proximity of each other. So much of our 48 hours here was spent on foot. From the Galleria dell’Accademia where the Statue of David is, down to the iconic Duomo (Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore), to the Piazza della Signoria, down to the Uffizi Gallery and Ponte Vecchio was a route we walked in a single evening.
Catching sunset on the Vecchio bridge had a wonderful charm! The bridge is very long as it spans across the wide Arno River, making for plenty of room for us tourists to get a spot on the edge.
But the most spectacular spot to watch the sun go down over the city of Florence was at Piazzale Michelango. Wow, what a sight to see! The Duomo and Arnolfo Tower within the Vecchio Palace felt so close you could touch them, and they stood tall in our front view with the rolling Tuscan hills in the background.
Taking a break from the crowds and cobblestone roads, we took to a walk in the vast and green Boboli and Bardini gardens near Pitti Palace, which also provided beautiful postcard views of Firenze and did not disappoint.
