Oddero can be considered the history of Barolo wine. Is one of the most representative winery in Barolo region (they are situated in La Morra, in the Langhe area of Piedmont) and its winery is one of the oldest and most historical for the production of Barolo DOCG.
In this video we will visit Oddero Winery and talk about the history of this important, traditional italian winery.
Therβs not a precise date when Oddero starts its production, but many historical documents take them back to the beginning of 1800. In this period, Oddero family estabilished in La Morra and started the coltivation of an indigenous grape and the production of wine. Initially wine was sold in bulk in the local area for local consumption. But in 1887 they put for the first time the wine in the bottle. It was a Barolo wine and there was, for the first time, the family name in the label of the bottle.
From there they started to receive request from other markets, even outside Piedmont borders, in Italy (Milano, Genova) but also abroad (Zurich and London mainly).
After the Second World War, in the 50s, Oddero family bought their first single vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, hence their wine βRocche di Castiglioneβ Barolo DOCG. Then, Oddero family expand their vineyards in Castiglione Falletto, Monforte dβAlba and Serralunga dβAlba. The purpose was to produce Barolo Classico, the traditional Barolo that is made thanks to the blend of different vineyards. Precisely that Barolo which over time has become famous all over the world.
