In the seminar we explore the terroir of the Sicilia DOC, discussing the land, climate, soil types, and topography that make the wines here so unique. We discuss the influences of the sea, the mountains, and importantly, we’ll explore the wines of this “wine continent” made from native varietals. You will learn why Sicily’s incredibly biodiversity and its 70 indigenous grapes mean that we are only just beginning to see what the Sicilia DOC has to offer the wine world.

In seminar one we taste (please make sure the appellation is Sicilia DOC):
• Grillo (a savory, delicious white)
• Nero d’Avola and Nero d’Avola Riserva (Sicily’s most important red grape, the side by side comparison will teach you volumes about what this grape is capable of achieving – it is both an excellent every day “pizza wine”, and a wine that deserves more attention and thought for its depth of character and flavor).

Enjoy the class!
