Saint francis way, a splendid itinerary in central Italy that follows the footsteps of the life of Saint Francis of Assisi.

After leaving Rome, the path crosses the olive yards of the Sabina, the territories of the north of Lazio.

Along the way, there are many places of worship in which Saint Francis had lived special moments in his life. Rich in spirituality and mysticism, these had gained importance long the medieval times, becoming monasteries, abbeys, and sanctuaries, such as: Abbazia di Farfa , Santuario di Greccio, Santuario San Giacomo.

The route crosses lots of parks, as of the Natural riserve of the Marcigliana, in the Lazio, the River Nera Park in the region Umbria, which protects the area around this important river, and many others. Within this park, it is located one of the tallest waterfalls in Italy, the Marmore Waterfall.

Given the abundance of nature in these territories, the culture of the wine is also important. We crossed important territories for the Italian wine production, like Montefalco, and had had some good surprises at the Assisi, and the Valnerina valley territories.

Being halt to cross the mountains prior to Spoleto with the bicycles, we took an alternative: the dismissed Spoleto Norcia railway, that has become an exciting cycleway, with its countless galleries and tunnels.

At last, the arrival at Assisi is somewhat mystical.
