If you’ve seen the movie Sideways, you already know a decent amount about Pinot Noir.
This week we review Pinot Noir and all its glory. Whether from Burgundy, California, Oregon or lesser known Pinot places like Germany, Italy, Australia or New Zealand, Pinot Noir has a lot to offer and can vary greatly based on where its grown.

This weeks wine:
Cristom
Pinot Noir 2016
Mt Jefferson Cuvee
Willamette Valley, OR
$22 (.375mL) or $40 for a full bottle
13.5% ABV

And it the tip of the week, what’s the best wine to order for a large group? HINT: its Pinot. Both actually. Last episode we discussed why Pinot Gris (or Pinot Grigio) is a good choice for a white wine, and Pinot Noir is the best choice for a red wine…most of the time.

TIP OF THE WEEK

Last episode on Pinot Grigio I mentioned how it is one of the best, if not the best white wine to order for a group. To make this even easier for you to remember, Pinot Noir is my tip for a red wine to order for a group. Cab might be the most common in the US, but Pinot is going to be higher in acidic and lower in tannin which will make it more versatile for a large group, esp if everyone is ordering different dishes. Steakhouse, maybe go with something else, but all other situations, Pinot Noir is your best bet to appeal to the largest number of people. Utilitarian wine. 🙂
