I do love to do a bit of home baking once in a while and one of my favourites since childhood is Cheese Straws. My mum used to make these and we loved them as kids. These are delicious, easy to make Cheese Pastry Biscuits, ideal for serving with drinks at parties or just enjoying as a snack. The beauty of these savoury biscuits is they are very easy and quick to make and the bake in super quick time – only 9 minutes. So, you can bake a batch even if unexpected guests arrive! Pastry cooks will find these very easy to make. Inexperienced cooks should find them fairly easy to do – pay close attention to the video for lots of tips on the rubbing in method and knowing when pastry is ready to roll out.

Here is the full recipe
Cheese Straws
200g flour
150g Cheddar Cheese grated
100g butter cubed
Baking parchment
Baking sheet
Rolling pin
Preheated oven at 220C
Seasoning of your choice – herbs, mustard, black pepper, spices (although I like them plain as they are)
Place all the ingredients into a bowl and rub in until resembling breadcrumbs. Bring together into a dough with your hand. You might need a splash of cold water to help it come together. Don’t over work it. Roll out on a floured board to about half a centimetre thick. Cut into strips. Lay on a baking sheet lined with baking parchment. Bake for around 8 minutes until golden. Allow to cool and then enjoy. Keep in an airtight container. Eat within 3 days.
