Conti Costanti has produced wines (mostly white wines) since 1555. They are probably the 2nd producer (after Biondi Santi) to start producing what we know in modern times as Brunello in around 1865. For years, their red wines were only produced for close friends and relatives but starting in around the 1960s under the ownership of Emilio Costanti, they began selling commercially to the public.
In 1983, ownership of the winery was turned over to Andrea Costanti.
The winery is located in Colle al Matrieche in the eastern zone of Montalcino. Their vineyards sit 400-450 metres above sea level and their vine age ranges from 5-25 years. Their vineyards comprise around 25 hectares of which 12 acres are planted and the remainder is used to grow olives and for regeneration of the vineyard.
The wine is made 100% with Sangiovese grapes. It is aged in oak for 3 years, then in bottle for another year. 2016 was a good vintage for Brunello with a cold winter, gentle spring and hot (but not too hot) summer.
