On July 12, 1979, acting Bonanno boss, Carmine Galante was having lunch at Joe & Mary’s Italian restaurant located on Knickerbocker Ave, Brooklyn New York. Galante had three bodyguards with him, Baldo Amato, Cesare Bonventre, and Leonardo Cappola.
At 2:45 pm, while dining on the back patio of the restaurant, three men in ski masks ran in and fired multiple shots killing Galante, Joseph Turano (Galante’s cousin and owner of the restaurant), and Cappola.
