Mutual Promise is a wine brand from one clever ‘wine guy’. An ex-restaurateur, turned wine collector, wine distributor and now wine producer, Evan Milne started ‘Mutual Promise’ having access to great fruit from a family in the King Valley – Nebbiolo, Gamay and the white variety Garganega from the Koombahla vineyard in Victoria’s North East.
Having friends in the industry to help you out when you’re the busiest man alive is an asset, and being too busy never stopped Evan creating his own wines. Evan has Italian wine in his blood. Nebbiolo is one grape variety that lights up his world, and you can tell. The Garganega is one of Australia’s first, originating in the Veneto region. From Italy’s North East to Victoria’s North East, this new attraction is an excellent crack at what we love about ‘Soave’. This wine was made with the help of Adrian Rodda and Mark Walpole, both incredible winemakers in their own right. This wine is from a small parcel of Garganega fruit from the Darling family. The fruit was guided through ferment at Beechworth’s Mayday Hills lunatic asylum.
Wonderfully floral and aromatic, this has charming grassy notes and a hint of elderflower. The fruit is like a crunchy pear, with some lemon and green apple, backed by a refreshing acidity akin to the personality of a classic, crisp Italian white. Slightly saline on the finish – this will have you going gaga for Garganega!
