Beginning December 8th all the way to January 6th there are several holiday celebrations in Italy and Sicily. December 8th is the Immaculate Conception, the kick off of the holiday season. December 13th is the Festa di Santa Lucia from Siracusa in Sicily, Saint Lucy’s Festival. December 24th and 25th Christmas Eve and day we discuss traditions here in Sicily and also our experiences growing up in a multi cultural family. December 26th is Saint Stephen’s Day, Santo Stefano. Next is New Year’s Eve when it is traditional to eat lentil soup. The final holiday, The Epiphany on January 6th is also La Befana . The witch brings either candy or coal to kids if they were good or bad.
