Recipe:
– 4 whole cloves
– 3 star anise
– 5 cardamom pods
– 2 cinnamon sticks, each about as long as your thumb
– 1 orange, sliced
– 6 tablespoons of white sugar
– 2 ounces of decent brandy or Cognac
Method:
1) Pour the wine into the pot. Add the brandy and toss in the spices.
2) Wash, slice and add the orange to the pot.
3) Stir in the sugar and put the heat on low. Let it simmer for about an hour, stirring occasionally. But don’t let it boil.
4) When it’s ready, serve it by the mugful, garnished with a whole star anise, a cinnamon stick and a slice of orange.
