David Messum is a busy guy. Winemaker, wine marketeer, wine media presenter….his schedule is packed. It’s Born & Raised winery that takes the majority of his hours these days however – a wine brand that follows his love of Italian wine varieties and minimal intervention winemaking across Victoria’s unique vineyards. David has worked in vintages in New Zealand, and has hunted out the winemaking secrets of Nebbiolo, his favourite variety, in its homeland Piedmont. David is also the founder of wine, food and hospitality marketing agency, Just the Drop where he works with some of Australia’s most exciting wine and lifestyle brands.
Having traveled the world and studied winemaking, viticulture and wine business, he founded Born & Raised in 2012, basing it on the simple premise that good things should be shared, you don’t need to follow the herd and that it’s ok to be different. Born & Raised Wines embodies the things David loves about wine so much – diversity, great people, sociability and above all having a good time.
With a pale orange hue in the glass, this is truly reminiscent of some of the solid Nebbiolo from Piedmont! It’s ripe, sure, but that’s the warm Heathcote sun speaking. Black cherry and orange peel, with super tannins, this is the real deal. Good drinking.
