How spaghetti with a cactus fruits sauce is cooked in Italy
Spaghetti ai fichi d’India is rather an exotic Italian dish that has its roots in Sicily – where cactus fruits usually grow well. During a trip to Corleone in Sicily I got inspired by those fruits and wanted to further explore them.
I must say, it is really worth it try these flavours combined with spaghetti and Parmigiano Reggiano, and topped with crushed pistachio nuts. Especially during autumn at cactus fruits high season it is a joy eating them.

Ingredients for 3 persons:
300 g of spaghetti
6 cactus fruits
80 g of Parmigiano Reggiano
1/4 golden onion
extra virgin olive oil
a shot of white wine
some crushed pistachio nuts
black salt
black pepper
