Join us for a virtual tasting with the founder of D’Agostino Wines, Greg D’Agostino. Greg’s Italian grandparents came to the U.S. with little more than a dollar and a dream. Years later the family became a household name, as the founders of the D’Agostino Supermarket chain in New York City. Today Greg taps into his Italian roots and imports some of the best value wines on the U.S. market.
The American dream has many origins. This one began in Bugnara, a small hillside village in Abruzzo, Italy. After Greg D’Agostino’s grandparents immigrated to America and started a successful grocery store chain, they realized their American dream. Greg founded D’Agostino Wines to build on that dream and bring the magic of Abruzzo wine to Americans at accessible prices. The wines are as much a product of New York as Italy. Elegant, stylishly structured and easy on the pallet. Part hustle, part sophistication. These selections are the Italian American experience captured in a bottle.
Abruzzo is a region of Southern Italy. Its cuisine is renowned for its variety and richness. The region’s wines like Montepulciano DOCG and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo DOC are judged to be amongst the world’s finest. In 2012, a bottle of Trebbiano d’Abruzzo ranked No. 1 in the top 50 Italian wine awards. Montepulciano is best with big, savory dishes, like beef, pasta bolognese, and pizza. It’s also a terrific combination with grilled food, such as smoked meats and barbecue dishes. As a light, easy-drinking wine, Pinot Grigio pairs well with light flavors. The best combos are seafood, salads, and chicken. Also lighter pasta dishes — those that are not red sauce — and risottos work well with Pinot Grigio.
