Chocolate and wine…could there be anything better?! Not in my book. Good quality chocolate and select vinos, when paired properly, can create among the most incredible, sensual sensations ever.
Here are a few romantic recommendations I’m sharing on Goodtaste.tv. A rule of thumb is you want your wine to be sweeter than the dessert it’s matched with. Champagne can work with chocolate, so long as the champagne is really sweet. And it does go nicely with strawberries if it’s not too dry…
I’ve selected an Italian Spumante, Petalo, that pairs wonderfully with milk chocolate (or white chocolate) and can be found at your local H-E-B. A fruit-forward, sweeter style sparkling that’s light and refreshing!
As we move down the spectrum, looking at some darker chocolates, I encourage you to try the Cote des Roses — of the southern region of France and reasonably priced under $15. Again from H-E-B. 🙂
When there’s no denying your chocolate is dark, go for big red wines. A classic pairing is with the incredibly affordable Villa Pozzi — another Italian wine for less than $10. Other types to keep an eye for, generally speaking, are Syrahs and Cabernets (those that aren’t high in tanins).
Many times if dessert isn’t really my thing, I’ll opt for a glass of something sweet instead.
One of my favorite go-to sparklings is a domestic…Schramsberg Brut Rosé. It’s dry with an aroma of strawberry on the nose. More importantly, it pleases my palate no matter the season.
As always, the most important thing is to have fun with this. Pamper yourself or someone special this month!
