Cheap Eats Manila: Pooja’s Cafe Authentic South Indian Cuisine on a Budget Vada Masala Dosa. Indian food has always been an exotic and relatively expensive cuisine in Manila and there have only been a few restaurants that have dominated the scene in the past decade like Kashmir, New Bombay, Bollywood, Legend of India and Swagat which we have previously featured. We were glad to discover Pooja’s Café along Chino Roces Avenue in Makati which serves authentic South Indian cusine where you can feast like a maharajah and not break the bank. This Tollywood decorated hole in the wall was opened in April 2015 by Sanjay Chandasekar who is from Chennai formerly known as Madras is the capital of the Indian State of Tamil Nadu in Southern India and named his restaurant after his daughter Poojah and is frequented by Indian nationals missing their home cooked cuisine. What to order from their menu? Well if you are new to South Indian cuisine we suggest you try the Vada and Masala Dosa which are served with Sambar and coconut chutney. Vada is a savory snack made from black lentil while Masala Dosa is is a fermented crepe made from rice batter and black lentils and stuffed with potatoes, fried onions and spices. Aside from these 2 must try dishes here we would also recommend the: Samosas, Chicken Tandoori, Chicken 65, Veg Biryani, Chicken Biryani, Egg Biryani, Paneer Tikka, Dal Tadka, Paneer Butter Masala, Rajma, Butter Chicken, Vegetable Curry, Shrimp Masala, Shrimp Curry, Roti Chanai, Chapati and for refreshments make sure to order an Indian Milk Tea.
