Franciacorta is a traditional method sparkling wine (called in Italian Metodo Classico) and is produced in northern part of Italy in the region of Lombardy. Appellation was established in 1967 and in 1995 was promoted to DOCG status. There are only 4 grape varieties permitted which is: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc and Erbamat.
Sweetness levels of Franciacorta
Pas dosé (‘Non-dosed’, with sugar up to 3 g/l) – Bone Dry
Extra Brut (sugar up to 6 g/l) – Very Dry
Brut (sugar less than 12 g/l) – Dry
Extra Dry (sugar 12-17 g/l) – Medium Dry
Sec or Dry (sugar 17-32 g/l) – Medium Sweet
Demi-Sec (sugar 33-50 g/l) – Sweet
