Florence bans eating in public, while tourists may face fines of up to €500 for flouting the controversial order.
New laws, which went into force on Tuesday, ban snacking in four streets in the Italian city’s historic centre popular with tourists.
Local businesses in the affected sites have been asked to put up signs warning visitors about the ban in prominent places.
Anyone caught snacking on the go could be fined as much as £450, according to reports.
