The 2018 Fontodi Chianti Classico brilliantly shines in elegnce and purity. Hailing from the hills of Chianti, where the Sangiovese wines in recent vintages have been positively radiant.
At a meager ~$40, this is a show stopping winner with lots of juicy dark fruit and Italian charm packed in the basic Fontodi Chianti Classico. Generous aromatics of black cherry, plum, lavender, dried herbs, graphite that lead to a fine and precise wine with notes of underbrush and leather.

The usual excellence in this single-varietal Sangiovese that discovers great elegance by Fontodi, being a step ahead thanks to a blessed vintage. The fresh nose displays red cherries and raspberry, with officinal scents from citrus thyme. The mouthfeel is backed by a nice acidity. Salty tannins. Firm and incisive. Persistent.

Always excellent, this 100% Sangiovese finds such elegance in the hands of Fontodi, elevated further by a fantastic vintage. A sudden drop in temperature at harvest lent a sublime concentration to the grapes which shines in the glass with deep color and dark fruit. Polished oak rounds out the appeal, adding aromas of leather, tobacco and spice.
