Today I want to share a trip to beautiful Venice Italy, my trip was pre Covid but Italy is now reopening to tourism with a Covid Tested flight, which right now is with Delta, American and United Airlines from the US, Every passenger must show proof of a negative Covid-19 test before departure and you are tested upon arrival (see your airlines for full requirements) If all is okay you can enter Italy without any quarantine.
And even thou we are relaxing out mask requirements in the US be prepared to Mask up in Italy and maintain social distancing. *And this is all subject to change
There is no worries about a language barrier in Italy, most high school students graduate having learned 4 different languages and 5 if they went to a Swiss boarding school.
You will land at Marco Polo airport on the mainland, you can chose a water transport or a bus, the bus is about 20 minutes and 15 euros or less, the water transport will make several stops and is about 15 euros per person on way and a water taxi is more expensive at 35-40 euros. Once your in Venice you will want to take the Vaporetto for you and your luggage to go to your hotel or B&B. The tickets are available at the Vaporetto stops and are around 7.50 euros and you can buy a multi day pass. There is also an App for a pre-purchase but they recommend to grad the paper pass upon arrival.
After that you can walk everywhere in Venice without getting lost, or just follow the crowd. Google maps works great here and is always handy.
We did our tours with Dark Rome tours:
We did the Venice Icons tour, the Doge’s Palace and St. Mark’s Basilica it gives you skip-the-line access and a local tour guide with great commentary on the history and art of both.
The Doge’s Palace was visually fantastic and I was in awe, and the Palace is connected to the Bridge of Sighs which no one knows who made it a romantic notice to kiss under it, it has a sad and not so romantic history.
We also went with Dark Rome tours to Murano and Burano a short boat ride away from Venice. Murano home to amazing glass making and Burano home to amazing Lace making.
We chose for our accommodations a local B&B in the heart of the city, owned by two brothers. Laconda Ca Le Vele is a beautiful place to stay our room was a queen bed, private bath and lots of Murano glass features. And a continental breakfast brought to our room. This is an amazing choice in Venice to stay with locals and get their knowledge and hospitality.

My tips for Venice:
*Stay on the island not the mainland, yes hotels are cheaper but the history is on the island.
*Do not order water at a sit down restaurant, it is not free and there will be a charge, order that glass of wine or Aperol Spritz instead.
*If your planning a winter trip be prepared for Aqua Alta when high tide comes in and floods St. Mark’s square, everyone in Venice owns a pair of “rubbers” it can happen from September to April.
*Grab an Aperol Spritz or an espresso and listen to the sights and sounds of Venice.
*Remember public toilets are Pay-to-Pee, instead go into a Cafe and pick up a coffee & pastry for the same amount.
*Make sure to visit Libreria Acqua Alta Bookstore, its the most interesting bookstore in the world and the most instagrammed.
*Take the Vaporetto at night and due the full circle of Venice it’s beautiful.
*Carry a refillable water bottle there are lots of water fountains to fill up.
