Finding Great Restaurants in Madrid, Spain
Madrid is the capital and largest city in Spain. There are great museums, but what I really wanted was the great Spanish food… churros, a Spanish tortilla, and of course jamón ibérico.
My first stop Was San Gines, which is known for its warm churros with chocolate. Lines can get long, so it’s best to come during off-hours.
I then made my way to the neighborhood of Malasaña, where Tipos Infamous is a book store where you can order Spanish wine while you browse the books.
San Miguel Market has stands that showcase a wide variety of Spanish food, so if you want an introduction to many things, come here.
For dinner, I went to Sobrino de Botin, which is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the oldest restaurant in the world. It opened in 1725 and is known for its specialty, suckling pig.
If you’ve never had a Spanish Tortilla, then the most famous place might be Bodega de la Ardosa. It’s made with eggs and potatoes. I messed up this part, as there is no cheese in it. Oops! I found that sweet Vermouth is popular to drink in Madrid, so I decided to partake in a glass. This is perhaps my favorite part of town.
Finally, I had some jamón ibérico de Belotta, which comes from acorn-fed pigs, and then aged for 6 months.
