In this video D introduces the other major Spanish wine region, Ribera del Duero.
Located a few hours North of Madrid, this wine region is actually not far away from the famous Rioja region just North East of it. As the name indicates, this region nestles around the Duero river, which then continuous on from Spain to Portugal, where it flows into the Atlantic.
Similar to the Port wine in Portugal, the Ribera is planted on the sometimes steep hills of the Duero valley.
Even though wine has been growing here for well over 100 years, the region became popular in the last 20 years and many more wineries have been established since.
D tastes 4 different Riberas and recommends two heavily:
1. The 27 Ribera del Duero 2016 from Protos. D scores this wine a 4.3 on Vivino. The wine is rated 93 by Wine Spectator.
2. Protos Ribera Reserva 2014, 4.2 on Vivino and 4.2 by D.
