An interesting find from Piedmont, Italy, with the 2019 Valli United Allessandrino Rosso.

A blend of Barbera, Dolcetto and Croatina that has seen steel fermentation and 4-5 days maceration.

This wine is from a cooperative that came into being 30 years ago, when 3 young farmers wanted to discuss new ways of farming their land. They merged all their vineyards together and started using organic manure from their animals to fertilise their fields and vines. They soon realised that organic viticulture was the way forward, and began reducing human impact on the natural environment.

The wine itself is organic and natural, with a slightly funky aroma on the nose, but also has plenty of dark, brooding fruits, almost a bramble character with red fruits too. Its a bit floral and very earthy too. The palate is medium bodied, high in acidity and full of those crunchy fruits that I enjoyed on the nose. Its a fun wine that could work well with foods for sure.

I like it, but its not necessarily to everyone’s tastes, it is however a great introduction to natural wines, and a fun mid week drink. Worth giving a go.
