We hiked Alta Via 1 in the stunning Dolomites in Italy, together with a dear friend, in June 2018.
The Dolomites offer one of the most impressive landscapes you will find in Europe, if not worldwide. I would consider the Dolomites as our European Patagonia, with rugged peaks rising abruptly from rolling green valleys.
Alta Via 1 is a long distance hiking trail you can do in comfortable conditions as you overnight in mountain huts (rifugios). Most have good facilities, delicious italian food & wine and a hot shower.
We started at Lago di Braies and left the trail 6 days later at Rifugio Vazzoler. We did not have time for the full Alta Via 1 but it’s supposed to be the best part.
