The Baedeker travel guide to Italy probably tells us more about the tourists than it does about Italy and the Italians. It’s uncomfortable reading as the readers appear to be only interested in the art and sights with no interest in Italy or the Italians who are either in the way or trying to separate the tourist from their money.
